ICC ANNOUNCES TEAMS OF THE YEAR 2024
The ICC has announced the Men’s ODI and T20I Teams of the Year for 2024, highlighting exceptional performances. In the ODI team, Saim Ayub (Pakistan) stood out with 515 runs in 9 matches, including three centuries. Rahmanullah Gurbaz (Afghanistan) impressed as a dynamic wicketkeeper-batsman, while Pathum Nissanka (Sri Lanka) showcased consistency at the top order. Kusal Mendis (Sri Lanka) contributed with his versatility as a batsman and wicketkeeper, and Charith Asalanka (Sri Lanka) added balance with his all-round abilities.
In the T20I team, Rohit Sharma (India) led as captain, providing aggressive starts and leadership. Travis Head (Australia) excelled as a powerful opener, playing a crucial role in Australia’s T20 success. Both teams reflect outstanding individual performances throughout the year.
MOHAMMAD SHAMI RETURNS TO INTERNATIONAL CRICKET
Mohammed Shami made a remarkable return to international cricket during the India vs. England T20 series. After a hiatus due to injury, Shami showcased his brilliance with the ball, reaffirming his value to the Indian team. His lethal swing and accuracy troubled England’s top order consistently in the 2nd T20 match. Shami’s comeback added depth and experience to India’s bowling attack. The Indian skipper, Suryakumar Yadav expressed his happiness at the return of the star pacer.
PCB ANNOUNCES SCHEDULE FOR TRI-NATION SERIES
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially unveiled the schedule for an exhilarating tri-nation series featuring Pakistan, New Zealand, and South Africa. The series will be held in Lahore, starting on Feb 8, and will serve as an essential build-up to the upcoming ICC tournaments. Each team will play the others twice in a round-robin format, culminating in an intense final between the top two sides. It will serve to offer a perfect platform for teams to refine their strategies, experiment with combinations, and build momentum ahead of the official beginning of the ChampionsTrophy 2025.
