This page explains what happens to your data when you use smartcric.is. There are no accounts and no sign-up; you can use the site without telling us who you are. What follows is what is collected anyway, by us and by the services the site relies on.

What is collected and why

Server logs. Like almost every website, our hosting keeps standard access logs: your IP address, the pages you request, the time, and your browser's identification string. We use these to keep the site running and to deal with abuse. They are kept for a limited time and then discarded.

Stream access token. To open a video stream, the page creates a short-lived token from a scrambled (hashed) form of your IP address and the current date. The token is sent to the video servers as part of the stream address. It does not contain your IP address in readable form, and we do not store it.

Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit and which parts of the site they use. It sets cookies (names beginning with _ga) and sends Google information about your visit, including a shortened form of your IP address. Google's own description is at How Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.

Advertising. The site is free because it shows ads from Google AdSense. Google and its partners may set cookies and use identifiers to show and measure ads. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you are asked for consent before personalised ads are shown; without it you see non-personalised ads. You can change your choice at any time using the "Consent settings" link at the bottom of the main page, and you can manage Google's ad settings at adssettings.google.com.

Peer-to-peer video delivery. To keep streams running smoothly, parts of the video you watch may be fetched from other viewers and parts of it may be sent from your device to other viewers, using a browser technology called WebRTC. When this happens, your public internet address is visible to those other viewers and to the peer-to-peer delivery service we use, which also receives technical reports such as your browser identification and transfer timings. This uses some of your upload data allowance. If you would rather not take part, you can watch with peer-to-peer delivery switched off; see "Your choices" below.

Content delivery and protection. Requests to the site pass through Cloudflare, and images, scripts and stylesheets are served through the bunny.net content delivery network. Both see your IP address and request details in order to deliver the content and to protect the site from attacks.

Cookies

• _ga and _ga_*: Google Analytics, up to two years.
• Google advertising cookies and identifiers, set by AdSense according to your consent choice.
• FCCDCF, FCNEC: Google's consent tool, which remembers the choice you made.

You can delete cookies at any time in your browser settings. The site works without them.

Your choices

• Change your ad consent choice through "Consent settings" at the bottom of the main page.
• Block analytics with the opt-out add-on linked above, or with your browser's tracking protection.
• Peer-to-peer delivery: we are adding a switch to turn it off. Until then, email us and we will explain how to watch without it.

Your rights

If you are in the EEA, the UK or another place with data-protection law, you may have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to some uses of it. Because the site keeps no accounts, in most cases we hold nothing that identifies you beyond short-lived server logs. Write to the address above and we will answer.

Children

The site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16.

If we change what the site collects, we will update this page and the date at the top.
