Install the Smartcric APK on your Android phone

Smartcric is not on the Play Store, so the APK comes straight from this page. Expect about two minutes: one download, one permission, one tap on Install.

Most people don't need this page. Adding Smartcric to your home screen from Chrome takes half a minute, downloads nothing and asks for no permission: see the Android app guide. The APK is for people who want a file they can keep or share, or whose browser refuses the home-screen method.

Download the file

Tap the button above. Chrome warns that this type of file can harm your device; it says that for every app that is not from the Play Store. Tap Download anyway.

The download takes a second or two. A notification appears at the top of the screen when it is done.

Open the file

Tap Open in the download notification. If the notification is already gone, open your Files (or My Files / Downloads) app, go to the Downloads folder and tap smartcric.apk.

Allow this source, then Install

The phone says it is not allowed to install unknown apps from this source. This is the normal first-time message. Tap Settings on it, switch on Allow from this source, then press back. Now tap Install.

Google Play Protect may add one more warning because the app is not from the Play Store. Tap More details, then Install anyway.

No message appeared, or the switch won't turn on? You can give the permission by hand. It belongs to the app that opens the file, usually Chrome or your Files app.

Samsung: Settings → Apps → three dots (top right) → Special access → Install unknown apps.
Xiaomi, Redmi, Poco: Settings → Privacy protection → Special permissions → Install unknown apps.
Oppo, Realme, OnePlus: Settings → Privacy → Special app access → Install unknown apps.
Other phones: Settings → Apps → Special app access → Install unknown apps.

Find Chrome (or Files) in the list and turn it on. Can't find the screen? Open Settings and search for unknown.

Tap Open, or find the Smartcric icon on your home screen. It opens full screen and starts on the match list, the same as the website.

You can switch the unknown-sources permission off again afterwards; the app keeps working.

If it doesn't work

You allowed the source, but the install is still blocked. The permission has to be on for the app that opened the file. If Chrome downloaded it but Files opened it, allow Files, not Chrome.

"App not installed". An older Smartcric app is probably still on the phone: uninstall it, then install this one. If there is none, the phone is likely out of storage.

You can't find the file. Open the Files app and look in Downloads; the file is called smartcric.apk. Downloading it again is fine too.
