Install the Smartcric app on your Android phone

On Android, Chrome and Samsung Internet can turn this site into an app. It gets its own icon next to your other apps, opens full screen without the browser's address bar, and starts straight on the match list. Nothing is downloaded from outside the Play Store, no permissions are asked for, and it takes about half a minute.

One tap. Your browser then shows a small dialog asking you to confirm. If nothing happens, the steps below do the same thing by hand.

Step by step, in Chrome

Open smartcric.is in Chrome itself

Type smartcric.is into Chrome's address bar and open it. It has to be Chrome (or Samsung Internet) proper, not the mini-browser inside WhatsApp, Facebook or Instagram: those can show the site but cannot install it.

Tap the three dots in the top-right corner to open the menu.

Tap Install app

In the menu, tap Install app. On older versions of Chrome the entry is called Add to Home screen; both do the same thing.

Chrome sometimes suggests this by itself in a bar at the bottom of the screen. If you see that bar, tapping it works just as well.

Confirm with Install

A small dialog shows the Smartcric icon and name. Tap Install. Chrome adds the icon to your home screen and, on most phones, to the app drawer as well.

Samsung Internet instead of Chrome? Tap the three lines at the bottom right, then Add page to, then Home screen, and confirm with Add. Samsung Internet also shows a small download-arrow icon in the address bar when a site can be installed; tapping that is the quickest way.

Firefox? Tap the three dots, then Add to Home screen, then Add. The icon opens the site in Firefox rather than as a separate app, so Chrome or Samsung Internet give a better result.

Find the Smartcric icon on your home screen and open it. The match list appears full screen, with no browser bars. Everything else works exactly as it does on the website, including the quality choice and the reconnects.

Later on, the icon always opens the current version of the site, so there is nothing to update.

If it doesn't work

The menu has no Install app or Add to Home screen. You are almost certainly inside another app's built-in browser (WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, Telegram and Gmail all open links in their own). Copy the address, open Chrome from your home screen and paste it in.

The icon opens the browser, with the address bar showing. That is a shortcut, not the app. Remove the icon (long press, then Remove), repeat the steps, and make sure the dialog in step 3 says Install.

Install app is greyed out or missing, and you did use Chrome. Either the app is already installed (look for the icon in your app drawer) or Chrome is out of date; update it from the Play Store and try again.

The install button at the top of this page did nothing. Browsers only offer that dialog in some situations. The manual steps above always work.
